Manifest 2008 is being held at the University of Melbourne, which is only a short way out from the Melbourne CBD. Located so close to the core of Melbourne, it is quite easy to make your way to Manifest.
The University of Melbourne is located just north of the heart of Melbourne in Parkville, neighbouring Carlton. As Manifest coincides with the AFL Grand Final in 2008, car parking will be sparse and traffic will be poor. For this reason, Manifest highly recommends the use of public transport for reaching our venue. Remember - it is Grand Final Weekend, so please plan your trip in advance.
Melbourne Uni can be easily found on Melways Map 2B. If you don't have a Melways, then http://www.street-directory.com.au is an excellent source of maps.
Arrival by Train - All Connex trains pass through Flinders Street. However, the best station to get to is Melbourne Central. If your train does not go through the city loop before arriving at Flinders Street Station, try and catch a connecting train from the same platform that will take you through the city loop to Melbourne Central (it may even be the train you arrived on).
Get off at Melbourne Central and exit via the central set of escalators (if you emerge in an area with only four to six exit barriers, you've got the wrong station exit). Scan your validated metcard (note that if you haven't already validated your metcard, the barriers won't let you out of the station), take the nearest escalators and follow the signs to the Swanston St exit. You should eventually emerge under the glass coned roof with the giant pocketwatch Melbourne Central is famous for. Cross to the other side of the open area and follow one of the two pathways to Swanston Street. In front of you should be a tramline. Get on the next tram. All trams heading north up Swanston Street stop at Melbourne University (and most terminate there).
A map of Melbourne's train network can be found at http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/maps_stations_stops/metropolitan_trains
Arrival by Tram - The main Melbourne University Tram stop is located on Swanston Street. It's got a large central platform area and is opposite the Royal Dental Hospital on the east side and the Sidney Myer Asia Centre on the west side. You can't miss it. Trams number 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72 all stop here. >From this platform head north (away from the city) up the platform and at the lights turn left and into the University. From there, follow the chalkings that will direct you to the registration area with the manifest logo.
You can also use Tram number 19 to get to the University from it's west side. You'll want stop number 11 on Royal Parade. The venue map below will show you how to go from there.
A map of Melbourne's tram network can be found at http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/maps_stations_stops/metropolitan_trams so please use it to help work out how best to get on one of the relevant trams bound for Melbourne Uni.
Arrival by Car - As already stated, Manifest strongly discourages using this option, but for those with absolutely no other choice, there is timed or ticketed parking in the streets around Carlton (time restrictions mostly don't apply on Sundays). Limited parking is also available in the University's own car parks from 5pm to midnight on Friday and all day on the weekend for a nominal fee per day. The underground car park below South Lawn is probably your best bet - access is via gate 4 next to the north end of the major tram stop on Swanston Street.
Arrival from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) - Skybus coaches run between Tullamarine and Southern Cross Station on Spencer Street in the CBD. From there, catch a city loop train to Melbourne Central and follow our train service directions from there. Adult tickets for Skybus are $16 one way and $26 return. No concession price is available. Tickets can be purchased at the bus terminal departing from terminals one and three. They can also be purchased and printed online from skybus.com.au
Taxis are an easy, although expensive option when travelling from Tullamarine to Melborne's CBD or Manifest. A round trip can cost around $80-85 dollars. They can be caught from the ground floor exits at any of the terminals.
If you would like to hire a car for the weekend (although, again, we stress that parking at Manifest is not very good), then a number of hire companies operate at Tullamarine Airport, including Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Hertz and Europcar.
Tullamarine Airport is where you will land if your tickets and baggage tags show the code "MEL."
Arrival from Avalon Airport - The most popular form of transport to Avalon Airport is the Sunbus coach. Sunbus runs between Avalon and Southern Cross Station on Spencer Street in the CBD. From there, catch a city loop train to Melbourne Central and follow our train directions from there. Adult tickets for the Sunbus are $20 one way and $36 return. No concession price is available. The coaches always wait for passengers that have come off flights and always arrive on time for departing flights, so you can relax knowing that you won't be stranded and left waiting. Tickets can be purchased at the bus terminal at Southern Cross Station or in the Arrivals building at Avalon.
If you would like to hire a car for the weekend (although, again, we stress that parking at Manifest is not very good), then a number of hire companies operate at Avalon Airport, inclding Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Hertz and Europcar.
Taxis are not readily available at Avalon and are not a very cost effective travel option, as it is 55km from Avalon to the Melbourne CBD.
Avalon Airport is where you will land if your tickets and baggage tags show the code "AVV."
