Entry rules
- Recommended maximum length is 50kb, which in .txt format is approximately 8000 words.
- One submission allowed per entrant. Stories co-authored will count as one entry for each author.
- Entries must be based on an anime, manga, or Japanese video game.
- Submissions must be received by midnight, 25 August, 2008. Australian Eastern Standard time.
- Entries that have won awards in previous Manifest Fanfiction Competitions are ineligible to enter.
- Submissions must be primarily in English.
Eligibility rules
- Members of the Judging Panel may not enter.
- Members of the Manifest Organisational Committee 2008 may enter, but will not be eligible to win.
- The Manifest 2008 Fanfiction Competition is open to international entries.
- Contestants are not required to attend Manifest.
- Entries must stand alone as a story. Exerts from longer stories are allowed if they stand alone.
Conditions
- Prizes are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-transferable.
- In the event that there are insufficient entries of acceptible standard, the Judges reserve the right to merge categories, to not award one or more prizes, or to cancel the competition outright. The rules are subject to change. Any changes to the rules will be posted on the Manifest website: www.manifest.org.au
- In the event that an entry depicts an illegal activity (e.g. a sexual relationship between two underage characters), the entry will be disqualified and possible further action taken. Please review Victorian laws if you think your entry might not comply or contact the fanfiction coordinator at: fanfic@manifest.org.au
- The Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Any story discovered to be plagiarised will be disqualified, and the original author notified. Further action will be taken at the discretion of the Manifest Committee.
- Manifest takes no responsibility for an entrant’s illegal use of copyrighted material. Copyright remains with the original author(s) as much as is possible.
- The Manifest 2008 Fanfiction Competition accepts entries with adult content, but retains the right to add content warnings when the entries are published on the Manifest website
- Manifest reserves the right to not publish an entry or entries on the Manifest website
Judging
Entries will be scored according to the following criteria: characterisation, style and suitability, spelling, punctuation, grammar and readability. There is some leeway for the Judges to use their discretion. Judges will be asked to give a comment for each entry to provide feed back to the authors.
Submission
Entries must be submitted by one of the following methods:
- Email (.txt, .rtf attachment)
- Post (.txt, .rtf file on CD)
All submissions must include the following information:
- Title of entry
- Your name
- Name you would like published/announced
- The fandom(s) anime/manga/video game
- Your email address
- Your content rating
- Word count
- Disclaimer
- Story context: While Judges are knowledgeable about several series, it is impossible to be familiar with all. A short orientation would be beneficial but must be indicative of the fandom's canon events. (300 words maximum please and this will not count towards your total word count.)
Additional optional information can include:
- A contact phone number.
- If you would like to receive a break down of the Judges scoring for your entry.
- If you are allowing Manifest to publish your entry on the Manifest website (Entries will not be published to the website without the permission of the author.)
- If you would allow the Judges comments to be published with your entry.
In the event that you win a prize and are unable to claim your prize during Manifest, you will be contacted for postal details.
Submission by Email:
Submit your fiction as an attachment by email to fanfic@manifest.org.au. Attachments must be in plain text (.txt) or rich format text (.rtf) format.
Submission by Post:
Entries submitted by post must be received on CD, in either plain text (.txt) or rich format text (.rtf). The Manifest 2008 Fanfiction Competition Co-ordinator will attempt to contact you if the CD cannot be read, if there is sufficient written detail to do this, however Manifest reserves the right not to accept the entry should no replacement CD be forthcoming.
