This year MANIFEST is considering running an Anime Auction. All anime otaku have merchandise from that anime/manga they loved at the past but now wonder what they ever saw in it. Well, that's what the auction is for! It's a chance for every otaku to sell off those pieces of merchandise (in good condition) that they no longer desire. CD's, plushies, key chains, models, tapes, DVD's whatever you have, they will - all go under the hammer in as crazy a fashion as possible at this year's MANIFEST 2002 Anime Auction. Don't pause to reflect it's just SELL, SELL, SELL accompanied by BUY, BUY, BUY!!!
Well, that's the interesting explanation, now on to the boring rules*:
- This auction has a definite no lay-by policy. (You gotta cough up before we give up!) All transactions are cash at the time of the accepted bid.
- Items can be in any condition, we do request that the condition be specified on the submission slip. Note, poor condition items are not as likely to sell or fetch a high price. Eg: "Ghost in the Shell VCR tape, watched too many times, but it is the subbed version."
- This auction has a definite no returns, no swap and no credit policy, so you better be sure before you buy. All sales are in an "as-is" condition. Caveat emptor. By definition all items offered are considered 'second-hand'.
- Items for the auction must be registered and presented well in advance so that they can be catalogued appropriately. (There is nothing worse than disorganisation!) The auction will be on the Sunday, we request items to be presented on Saturday or Sunday morning. There is a $1.00 registration fee for each item to be presented for auction. An item maybe defined several ways. EG: a collection of manga can be presented as 1 item. MANIFEST reserves the right to decide what constitutes an item as it sees fit.
Note: The auctioneers also can split a multi-part item into individual sales if the demand is there. If this occurs registration fees for the individual sales will be imposed.
- Reserve prices can be set on items. If the reserve isn't met then the item will be passed in unless the seller agrees to release or modify the reserve price. If no reserve is set MANIFEST will assume any bid offered is acceptable.
- In general bids are in increments of $1.00 unless the auctioneer has reason to choose otherwise. This means small items (like badges for instance) should be grouped together so dollar increments make sense.
- Which items are offered for bidding and the order is entirely up to the auctioneers and organizers. MANIFEST reserves the right to not auction items it considers inappropriate (eg: non-anime related items). Remember we do have definite time limits for the auction.
- Items are the responsibility of the owners. If sold or unsold items are not collected before the end of MANIFEST then they will be disposed of.
- Yaoi, yuri & hentai merchandise will be sold only to those who have proof of age. (Hey, some of this stuff ain't for kiddies!)
- While you don't have to be at the auction will your items are sold, it can assist in selling if you are there to answer questions on the items background or history. Besides which there is probably stuff there you will want to bid on yourself anyway.
- In the case of donations to MANIFEST or the founding clubs (WWWA, MACC, SAC, MAS) this waives the $1.00 rego fee but the monies made go the specified club/group.
*These rules are subject to change. If you are interested in participating, please check for updates on this page.
